GENERAL
COMMITTEE GUIDELINES

SOCIETY BUSINESS

Finance
Proposes and presents the Delta Epsilon budget to the membership for approval.

Nominations
– Prepares a slate of officers to be submitted to the membership for approval at the March meeting, 2004 and installs new officers at the regular meeting in May, 2004.

Membership & Necrology
Membership invites qualified women educators to active membership in the Society. Necrology prepares and conducts a short memorial service at the regular chapter meeting in May, if needed.

Rules
Provides rules that apply specifically to the chapter and reviews/updates said rules each biennium. The chapter rules must be in harmony with international and state governing documents.

PROGRAM OF WORK

Program – Plans the year’s program for the chapter and prepares the chapter yearbook.

Hospitality – Locates different sites and refreshments for meetings and activities.

Music – Provides music support when needed.

Personal Growth & Services – Acknowledges high student achievement by donating books to the school library in their name (elementary 2003, elementary/middle school 2004).

Professional Affairs & Scholarships/Grants – Establishes the criteria for local grants, honors recipients and disburses grant funds. At the state level, encourages young women to apply for Lambda State scholarships.

Legislation – Researches and reports action in the field of legislation and civic decision-making for the purpose of improving education and the status of women educators.

U.S. Forum Representative – Responsibilities will be created by chairperson.

Research – Provides research support for chapter programs, projects and activities and submission of articles to Lambda State Newscaster.

Women-in-the-Arts – Plans appropriate art activities for the chapter and encourages attendance at the State Creative Art Retreat.

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

Communications – Provides linkage of member to member, chapter to state and state to international.

Technology & Website – Maintains communication on Unit 10 website and will develop a picture directory. Will develop a link from Delta Epsilon to Lambda state website.

International Projects – Malawi Supplies – Provides support for Malawi Project.

Literacy – Oversees and coordinates following committees: Newborn Packets, Methodist Mission Migrant Project, School Supportive Materials, Chestnut Health Center Library and Adopt a Family. Will research and develop new literacy project(s) in 2003 and initiate in 2004.

Newborn Packets – Purchases, assembles and distributes newborn packets at local hospital.

Methodist Mission Migrant Program – Provides supplies for children of migrant workers in southern Illinois.

School Supportive Materials – Purchases school supplies and have them readily available in district public and nonpublic schools when needed by students.

Chestnut Health Center Library – Purchases materials for young people at Chestnut Health Center.

Adopt-a-Family – Will develop criteria for eligibility, research the areas of need, and provide services, activities, materials, etc. Distributes canned goods collected at Christmas brunch to the local food pantries.

FUNDRAISING PROJECT COMMITTEES

Christmas Brunch & Auction – Selects a site and organizes brunch/auction activities.

Spring Plant Sale – Distributes certificates and work with local plant vendor.
