What are Early Childhood Screenings?

They are free developmental check-ups for young children, and are held throughout the school year.  We coordinate our efforts with the Pre-Kindergarten program to identify children at risk.  Parents are encouraged to bring their 3 and 4-year old children to the screening.

The team checks these developmental areas for each child who is screened:

bulletLanguage
bulletMotor
bulletGeneral intelligence

What is the Early Childhood Special Education Program?

Children ages 3-5 who have significant delays in two or more developmental areas can qualify for the early childhood special education program.  If a child is found to be eligible for the program, an Individualized Education Plan will be developed by the IEP team.  Parents are a very important part of this process!  This IEP allows the teacher to help the child progress at his or her own rate in the area of the delay.  Typical preschool activities are interwoven with special services (determined by each child's IEP) to help each child work toward his or her potential.
