August 2007
Dear Parents:
Welcome to the second grade! We will be learning new things this year while building on the skills your child has already learned prior to second grade.
School should be a positive environment for children and I try very hard to keep things going in a positive flow. A child's self-esteem is very important, and I feel a positive environment at both school and home can help a child's self-esteem grow in a healthy manner.
All children are individuals. They each have unique personalities, which requires getting to know each of them. In time. I hope to get to know each of your children and that will enable me to motivate them to get the most out of the second grade!
I'm sure by now all parents have heard about how important it is to read to your children and also with your children. I would like all of the children to read every night for at least 15 minutes and gradually extend that time to 30 minutes. Some children will read more and that's terrific. By listening to your child read aloud you will be able to hear the progress he/she makes throughout the year.
The second grade students will have minimal homework. Homework will be for the purpose of reinforcing skills taught in the classroom. Parents should, of course, not do their child's homework but most certainly should feel they can assist the child to make sure they understand the skill involved. Parents are very important in the teaching of their children.
I look forward to an enjoyable school year
Sincerely,
Mrs. Dominick
