What is a Student Assistance Program?
A Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a school based prevention,
early intervention and support program for students who are having difficulty
being successful in school. The SAP focuses on all students in the school
There are a number of factors that may contribute to keeping
students from experiencing success in school. Among these are problems
with learning, socialization, substance abuse, family dynamics, peer pressure
and school environment.
In order to help a student become more successful in school, the
Student Assistance Program uses a systematic approach in determining what
problems are being experienced, determining a variety of steps to help the
student be more successful, and implementing a process to help the student.
The team begins this process when the Student Assistance Core Team, a team who
cares about what is happening with a student's school experience, receives a
referral. That referral may come from you or a staff member at the school.
If you have questions about the Student Assistance Program or
would like to make a referral, please contact a member of the Student Assistance
Core Team.
Maryville's SAP team is Micki
Fedorchak, Barbie Linton, Jen Osaben, Jen Keene, Jen Arnotti and Lisa Barker.
