Bruce W. Hawkins, Director

Bruce Hawkins is band director at Collinsville Middle School. Although Mr. Hawkins is in his 20th year here with Unit 10, he has been in music education for 34 years. Mr. Hawkins is a 1975 graduate from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. He also received certification in secondary and elementary classroom education, as well as, his masters in music from SIUE.

Over the years Mr. Hawkins has been a member of the SIUE Symphonic Winds and the University Orchestra, a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, President of the St. Clair County Band Director's Association, President of the Madison County Band Director's Association, Chairman of the Illinois Grade School Music Association District Five, a member on the state executive board for the IGSMA, State President of the Illinois Grade School Music Association, member of Illinois Music Educators Association, American School Band Directors Association and National Association for Music Education.

Mr. Hawkins was awarded Teacher of the Year from the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce in 1999, chosen as staff member of the year by local PTA, received the superintendents award for Quality in Education, and the recipient of the Certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Board of Education. He assisted the CHS Wind Ensemble to Carnegie Hall. Mr. Hawkins has been a guest conductor, adjudicator, guest soloist, and host for solo and ensemble contests.

Mr. Hawkins and his bands have participated in County Festivals, Solo and Ensemble Contests, Organizational Contests, IMEA, parades, guest appearances, as well as, school assemblies, pep band and formal concerts, and recently was invited to perform at the IMEA All-State Conference in Peoria, IL.
