This summer, the Collinsville School District 10 will again offer Summer Band classes for the District 10 students. Enrollment will be limited to band students who have been enrolled in the band during the 2007 - 2008 school year. Beginning band instruction will start in the Fall for all students who wish to join band. Details concerning summer band are listed below.

WHY ENROLL IN SUMMER BAND? During the school year, each band student spends many hours practicing and experiencing the fun of playing an instrument. It is a reality that during the summer, without structured lessons, many students do not have the desire to continue what was started during the school year. As a result, many of the valuable concepts of playing the instrument are forgotten due to lack of practice and reinforcement. When school starts in the Fall, much of that was previously learned has to be retaught instead of built upon. SUMMER BAND will offer the students the opportunity to continue to improve and to enjoy a very worthwhile activity.

WHAT TYPES OF ACTIVITIES WILL THE STUDENTS EXPERIENCE?
SUMMER BAND will include both remedial and enrichment activities. Previous concepts that have been learned will be reinforced, bad habits that may have developed will be corrected, new concepts will be taught to the students, and most of all, they will have FUN learning to play their instrument..

HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN BE ACCOMMODATED?
We have over 200 continuing band students in grades six through eight We sincerely hope that EVERY band student will be able to enroll in SUMMER BAND.

WHAT ABOUT VACATIONS?
If you will be on vacation for part of the SUMMER BAND sessions, but would like to participate, please call Mr. Hawkins. Participating in part of the sessions will be better than none at all. THIS CAN BE WORKED OUT.

WHERE WILL SUMMER BAND BE TAUGHT?
In the band room at the Collinsville Middle School, we do have air-conditioning.

IS THERE A COST FOR SUMMER BAND?
There is no cost.
