The Latin Club defeated the Spanish Club in a hard-fought battle to win the Foreign
Language Soccer Tournament.  Over 90 French, German, Latin, & Spanish Club students
participated in the tournament on November 1.

On Wednesday, November 5, CHS fall athletes were recognized for their accomplishments both on and off the field. Academic honors were recognized for the many Kahok athletes maintaining a 3.75 GPA or above during the fall semester as well as those who were named to All Conference teams. The fall play, Rumors by Neil Simon will be performed in the CHS Fine Arts Auditorium on November 6, 7 and 8 at 7 pm.  Tickets are $5 each and can be obtained at the box office prior to the performance.  The play is rated PG-13 so it is not recommended for young children.

CHS senior Leila Houshmand recently attended the National Youth Salute Leadership program called Town of Tomorrow.  Seventy-five students attended the experience, representing 14 states.  Leila was one of ten students receiving awards for outstanding leadership qualities.  Congratulations to Leila!

 

The annual Fall Sports recognition ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 5 at 7:00 pm in the Fletcher Gymnasium. Please join us to celebrate the accomplishments of our talented athletes!

CHS Senior Kalina Kutriansky has been named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalistRead more here.  Amy Blood, Tyler Doyle and Robert Hildreth have been named National Merit Commended students.  These four students are in the top 2% of academic achievers in the country!

CHS Marching Band earned Class AA first place honors at the Belleville East Marching Invitational on Saturday, September 13.  Read more here.

The Collinsville High School Bands “illuminated” Magic Kingdom, performed at Downtown Disney, produced a DVD, and participated in several behind the scenes clinics at the Dynamic Music Festival at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.  The Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, the Lab Band, and the Jazz Band all received first place in their respective divisions in the Dynamic Music Festival.  The Collinsville Jazz Band was named “Best Performing Ensemble of the Day” at the festival and Jessica Rickenbaugh was named “Best Soloist” for the festival.

Baseball Team Defeats Minooka to win Sectional

May 31, 2008. The CHS Baseball team defeated Minooka in the Class 4A Sectional championship game. The final score was 4-3.

Kahoks Top O'Fallon in Bloomington Sectional Semifinal Game!
 
May 29, 2008. The Collinsville Kahoks, under the coaching direction of Pete Trapp, sent the Panthers back to O'Fallon after their 6-5 win this evening at the Class 4A Bloomington Sectional.

Collinsville (19-11) had been defeated by the top-rated Panthers (30-6) twice during the regular season. The Kahoks scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to earn the win this evening. Senior Derek Mattea (.354, 39 RBIs) hit three homeruns during the game for CHS.

The Kahoks will return to Bloomington to face Minooka in the title game at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

CHS Treble Choir and Concert Choir
perform at the Six Flags St. Louis Music Festival on Saturday.  It is a highly competitive two-day competition.  Both choirs received superior ratings from all three judges.  All three judges are college choir directors from Missouri who also guest conduct at major festivals around the nation. 

Cardinals Honor Athlete's of the Year
All athletes from the surrounding counties that are serviced by the Suburban Journals were honored at the April 28th Cardinal game. 


The CHS Wind Ensemble
placed first in the State of Illinois Invitational
High School Concert Band Contest at Illinois State University for Class 5A
and a 2nd place overall on Saturday April 26, 2008.

Kahok Cheerleading Tryouts
Tryouts for the 2008-2009 Kahok Cheerleading squads will be held on May 12, 13 and 14.  A mandatory parent meeting will be held on May 1.  For more information, click here.

"Planning for Life After High School: College and Careers" On Wednesday, May 7, the CHS guidance department is hosting an informational meeting for 11th graders and their parents.  The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the CHS auditorium.  Please come and take advantage of this opportunity to gain valuable information about preparing for and applying to college, technical school, and other post-secondary programs.

Kahok Volleyball Camp
for female athletes in Grades 3-8 (enrolled in Unit 10 schools or parochial schools within Unit 10 boundaries) to be held April 21-24.  For details, click here.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving teachers, high school, and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations. To see the article on CHS participation in this event, click here.

Foreign Language Scholar Bowl
The Foreign Language Department participated in Foreign Language Day at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  Eight teams competed in the Foreign Language Scholar Bowl.  The lower level Latin team came in first place, and the upper level Latin team placed second.  The lower level French team also placed second. 

CHS Juniors complete two days of Prairie State Testing
Students were provided breakfast as well as other incentives to help them achieve their very best on state-mandated testing.

Internet Safety Day - April 25
The district celebrated Internet Safety Day on Friday, April 25.  Vicki Fuhrhop's class at CHS designed and produced Internet Safety t-shirts for class members and presented a shirt to Mr. Flohr, CHS Principal

Notification of Survey Administered to CHS Juniors.   CHS 11th grade students will be completing on online character education survey between March 4 and March 6, 2008.  Parents may access information about this survey here.

Winter Athletic Awards Night will be held on Monday, March 10 in the Fletcher Gymnasium. This night will honor all Winter Athletes:  Basketball (boy & girl), Wrestling, Bowling (boy & girl), Cheerleading and Dance.

DRIVERS EDUCATION MEETING RESCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, FEBRUARY 25TH.  Mandatory meeting for parents of students eligible to enroll in driver education classes during 4th quarter or summer sessions will be held on Monday, February 25.  Read more here.

Three CHS Wrestlers advanced to state finals in Champaign!  Ryan Robinson and Andy Springer each won sectional championships and Anthony Rodriguez won 3rd place at the Granite City Class II Sectional on Saturday, February 9.  Read more here.

January 31.  CHS Band and Chorus students head off to Peoria for the Illinois Music Education Association All-State Conference.  Eleven CHS students were selected to participate in the All-State Band or All-State Chorus from CHS this year.

November 26.  A meeting will be held at Collinsville High School in the Fine Arts Auditorium for parents interested in learning more about the new Illinois Graduated Driver laws.  The meeting is mandatory for parents of students eligible to enroll in the Classroom Portion of Driver Education during the second semester of the 2007-2008 school year (semester begins January 2, 2008).  Click here for more details.

November 16, 2007
.  The Collinsville High School band will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana for the Bands of America Grand National Championships this coming weekend. The Kahok marching band will perform at 2:45 pm on Friday, November 16. Click here to watch the event live via the Internet on November 16 at 2:45 pm (CST).

November 13.  The annual Fall Sports Night spotlighted the hard work and success of Kahok athletes.  Click here for a picture gallery of awards, including academic awards (athletes earning a 3.5 gpa or higher), all-conference students as well as good wishes for retiring golf coach, Mel Heien.

November 10.  CHS Spanish, Latin, German and French Clubs completed in the annual Foreign Language Soccer game.  The Spanish Club defeated the Latin Club in the championship game, 1-0.
