Collinsville Middle School
Character Education Team strives to provide opportunities for students to be acknowledged for displaying good character. Teachers support the initiative by reminding students of the character trait of the month, incorporating it into their lessons and displaying posters in their classrooms to remind students of good character. The Media Center provides the Character Trait Trail. Students are able to complete stations along the trail each month. Each station consists of a booklet that highlights a popular figure, either present day or passed and allows the student to gain insight into how people display good character. Students must complete the booklet and answer questions about what they have independently studied. Once completed, the students are eligible to eat lunch on the Positive Patio at the end of the month, complete with an ice cream treat.
The Character Education Team has partnered with local businesses and school organizations to fund Character Flair Medallions. These medallions are awarded to students every two months during their lunch periods. Students and staff who were caught displaying any one of the 10 character traits can receive a Character Trait Ticket from a staff member in the building. Students receiving the medallions are encouraged to wear them proudly on their student I.D. lanyard.
The Character Education Team also sponsored the sale of Character Flair T-Shirts. Students and staff wear their Character T-Shirts to unite for good character!
