Reading Counts

2009-2010

Million Word Club – Students will be featured on the internet after they have read one million words.

Student Progress should be posted in the hallway.  The system may either be as a grade level (1^st grade Lilly Pads) or as an individual classroom.

Each grade level has developed incentives for progress.  Please encourage and adhere to these grade level systems.

We will not compete between classrooms this year.

Students who read any book worth over 20 points will be asked to have a verification sheet signed by a parent.  (see attached)

New for 09-10

Reader in the Spotlight – Teachers may choose students who participate diligently in Reading Counts, but who may not ever win an award for their points.  You may fill out the student interview sheet or have another student interview them.  The featured student and their interview information may be on the Renfro web-site, recognized on morning announcements or asked to stand at the Character Assembly.  See attached interview sheet.  If you wish to feature a student, please place these in Sherry Murphy’s box by the first of each month.

Participation in Family Reading Night – Staff members may act out a story or mini-play.
